The story of the honey ant is told across the Northern Territory and into South Australia. Not only a highly favoured food source, the honey ant provides an important link between the Anangu people's mythology and interdependence of the environment. The honey ant ancestors are strongly associated with the country surrounding Papunya. When Aboriginal people go looking for honey ants they look for the tiny tunnels that go down to the ants nest about a metre under the mulga tree. The presence of honey ants is betrayed by the colour of the ants walking around on the ground. The tunnels are called nyinantu and the larvae are called ipilyka-ipilyka. When they find them, they shovel and dig down with a stick or crow bar, following the tunnels to find the honey ants inside. They suck the nectar from the abdomen of the honey ant. The circles in this dreaming often represent sites where the people are digging for ants, with the U-shapes being people.\u003c\/p\u003e","brand":"Papunya Tjupi","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":50518741647417,"sku":"593705","price":200.0,"currency_code":"AUD","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0774\/4890\/4761\/files\/image_c845ea92-825d-4eb4-a592-fe7c25cc9fff.jpg?v=1790042371"}],"url":"https:\/\/tjupiarts.myshopify.com\/collections\/works-by-ivy-mcdonald-nampintjinpa.oembed","provider":"Papunya Tjupi Arts Centre","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
